Cozy DIY living room theater setup during the COVID-19 quarantine.

April 04, 2020 in Relationship Things

Self-quarantine? No problem.

What’s better than the standard Netflix and chill? Netflix and chilling in a cozy DIY living room theater. The best part is it doesn’t have to cost you a penny to enjoy this seemingly luxurious date night setup.

My wife and I had a lot of fun creating this living room theater. Since we don’t expect any guests to come over for a while, we thought, “Why not?” All we had to do was push our two couches together, throw some of our coziest sheets and pillows on top, and voilà! Taking it a step further, we added warm lights around the area and our fur babies’ beds in the appropriate spots.

For couples that are looking for easy and fun mini-projects to do with your boo during these trying times, this is one of them. This is the perfect time to take your binge-watching setup to the next level. And yeah, we know you have a lot of shows to catch up on!

Furthermore, there are an abundance of additional customizations you can do to your setup. For example, add a canopy above to enclose your space even further and add to the coziness. Or, find some string lights to add to the tops of the backs of the couches to add to the romantic vibes. The options are endless when it comes to the customization of your cozy living room theater.

Try it out and show us your cozy living room theaters! If you happen to be on Instagram, tag us your cozy theaters at @SquareCurves.

As always, please stay safe during this time everyone. Stay indoors, wash your hands regularly and keep being creative! We hope to be able to go out and shoot with you all soon!

Best,

Matt Gillette

Creative Corner: What is it?

February 18, 2020 in Creative Corner

We here at SquareCurves Studio pride ourselves not only in providing impeccable photos that capture unforgettable moments for our clients, but also in collaborating with creatives that come from various backgrounds. We believe that there’s a certain common element that we all share as artists and creators; and our goal is to tell their stories through photography.

“Creative Corner” will be a new category within our blog library that will accomplish just that. With the Atlanta local and non-local creatives/artists/businesses we photograph, we hope to highlight their stories and bring more light to who they are and what they do. From comedians, to aerialists, to painters and beyond; this series will provide a platform that will touch topics such as the origins of their craft, as well as depicting our own experiences photographing them and getting to know who they are outside of their art. Through this we hope that our readers will be exposed to these brilliant people and illustrate their passions through these photographs.

If you happen to be a creative/artist/business that wants to tell your story and what you’re passionate about, please send us an e-mail (SquareCurvesStudio@Gmail.com) and tell us about yourself. We’d love to hear from you and can’t wait to work with you all.

Much love,

Matt Gillette

The Beginning

SquareCurves Studio x Matt Gillette

May 21, 2019 in Photography

Conceptualized in 2015, Founder and CEO of SquareCurves Studio, Matt Gillette had just picked up his first Canon DSLR and instantly fell in love with anything and everything Photography. Starting out with architecture, he walked the streets of Atlanta in search of beautiful building structures and alleyways. Through this he - not surprisingly - found his way into Street Photography. There, he started to fall in love with photographing people and capturing emotion through the motions and fluidity of the body and the facial expressions of each individual.

In the early days of his paid Photography work, Matt was shooting a lot of Event Photography: Corporate events, parties, small weddings, etc. Eventually he started to get a feel for Fashion Photography and general portraits. His existing love of fashion tied into his love of Photography, and it was then that he started to focus on Portrait Photography and everything that encompassed it. Through the exposure of all these different avenues of Photography, Matt has developed a well-rounded skillset that allows him to shoot for any and all creative endeavors.

SquareCurves Studio stands behind 3 things:

  • Attention to detail

  • Cinematic visuals

  • Personalization

It’s these three key factors that drive the visual edits behind each photo in the SquareCurves portfolio. Matt believes that (most) Photography rules were made to be learned and then broken in order to personalize each photo to the individual(s) being photographed and to the purpose of the shoot; therefore, bringing out the most cinematic versions in them. Today, you see so many Photographers that adhere to every little Photography rule and it essentially takes the creativity out of the editing process, and instead standardizes each project. One aspect of what makes a SquareCurves photo unique is the colors of the photo. Matt believes that greens don’t always have to stay green and reds don’t always have to stay red. He asks this simple question in his ‘Photography for Beginners’ class: “Why are there options to change the hue and saturation of each color (as well as a plethora of other things) in Lightroom and Photoshop if it’s not meant to be played with?”

It’s these kinds of questions that drove Matt to ask the WHY behind everything he does in his Photography. “Once you ask yourself why you shoot photos like this, and why you edit them like that, you will find your own creative eye and style for your own photos.” Through this, Matt eventually founded his vision and direction in SquareCurves Studio.

———

“In the end, Photography is all subjective. My methods/teachings are all based on my style and are right for me. However, each photographer has his/her own creative eye and style. I respect that, and that’s what’s so great about Photography and any other creative job. Take my thoughts and ideas with a grain of salt. You can either agree with my methods and we’ll have an awesome time, or you can disagree and find another capable Photographer that better fits your eye.” - Matt Gillette
